An 11-mile one-way drive across the old muck farms, now marsh. Alligators, herons, bald eagles. Free, and it opens at 7 AM — same as us.

We opened when Zellwood was the sweet corn capital of Florida
A dozen major farming operations worked the black muck on Lake Apopka's north shore. Trucks ran up and down Orange Blossom Trail before dawn. A breakfast counter on 441 wasn't a nice idea — it was infrastructure.
The farms are gone. The marsh came back. We're still here at 7 AM.
